Imap Ukûa The Mother of the Sea lives in the ocean bed. She’s giving life to all animals. The evil deeds of all mankind appear like dirt in her hair. To punish the Inuit’s she gathers the seals in her hair where they live like lice. Without pray the Inuit’s will starve, and the Angakok most travel to her and comb her hair free of evil deeds. After doing so the seals once again will start swimming in the sea.
Asiaq Asiaq is the goddess of the winds and the weather. She lives somewhere out in the pack ice. When the ice fails to crack in the springtime the Angakok must go to her and pacify her, so that she may unloose the winds and the rain.
Amô Amô is a familiar spirit; quite indispensable to any Angakok. Every time a an Angakok holds his séances and his hands are bound behind his back, and his soul has flown on it’s magic errand it is his familiar spirit, Amô, who holds the spectators spellbound in the hut while the lamp dimmed. It has a huge head and practically no body, but extremely long arms.
Angiut When people are ill or require information about the success of seal hunting, the Angakok must call upon Angiut, a spirit who looks like a seal.
Tôrnârssuk
Tôrnârssuk is the chief of the familiar spirits. Where other familiar spirits fail Tôrnârssuk succeed, but the Angakok has to be very skilled to seek the help of this spirit. Tôrnârssuk goes though mountains as if the where air; for him there are no obstacles.
Âjumaq
A most unpleasant spirit. Everything that it touches rots and perishes. It has a dog’s head but a human body. It’s arms and legs are black, and it has only three fingers on each hand and three toes on each foot. It never walks but glides.
Aqajaropsiorpua
It has happened more that one that a whole settlement has been terrified to death because the appearance of Aqajaropsiorpua. A huge monster which kills everyone at the mere sight of it’s horrible form as it thunders down the settlement like alive boulder.
Erqigdlit Another spirit you should avoid. In the heart of the mountains near the edge of the ice cap live some creatures who are the worst enemies of the Inuit’s. They have the upper body of a dog. If they see any Inuit, they’ll pursue them and tear them to pieces out of sheer lust to kill.
Amâgajat Deep in the mountains lives a horrible witch who’ll take lonely travellers by surprise and puts them in her knapsack and carries them home to her hut, where she devours them.
